ABOUT THE ARTIST

Between rigidity and movement.

Georgia Polyzoi is a ceramic artist from Euboea, based in Athens.

Working primarily with paper porcelain, she creates sculptural forms that explore the tension between rigidity and softness, structure and movement.

Her practice is material-led and process-driven, with colour, repetition and layering becoming integral to the construction of each piece.

ARTIST STATEMENT

My work begins with making.

I don't start with an image or a predetermined narrative. I work directly with porcelain, allowing repetition, accumulation and manipulation to lead me towards forms I could not fully anticipate.

I am drawn to moments when the material seems to contradict itself — when something rigid appears soft, when a structure seems unstable, or when a static object retains a sense of movement.

Colour and pattern emerge through construction rather than being applied as decoration. Layers accumulate, repeat and shift, becoming part of the structure itself.

I see each piece as part of an ongoing material investigation. Rather than using porcelain to illustrate an idea, I use making to discover the idea.
